Sudoku is a number-placement puzzle where the goal is to fill a 9×9 grid so that every row, column, and 3×3 box contains the digits 1 through 9. Born from Latin-square theory and popularised by Japanese publisher Nikoli in the 1980s, it remains the world's most-played pencil puzzle.

2048 is a sliding-tile puzzle on a 4×4 grid. Tiles with the same number merge when they collide, doubling in value. The goal is to reach the 2048 tile — and, for the brave, far beyond. Created by Gabriele Cirulli in 2014, it became one of the most-cloned web games of the decade.

Minesweeper is a single-player puzzle where the player uncovers cells on a grid, using numerical hints to deduce which cells hide mines. Bundled with Windows since 1990, it became — for a generation of computer users — the gateway drug to logical deduction.

Seven shapes, infinite descent.

Tetris is a tile-matching puzzle where falling tetrominoes must be rotated and arranged to complete horizontal lines. Designed by Alexey Pajitnov in the Soviet Union in 1984, it is one of the best-selling and most-portrait video games of all time.
